Among the strong attractions of Mountainside is it's close proximity and easy access to numerous modes of public transportation and highways.

Located less than 25 miles from New York City, Mountainside is a prime location for individuals who work in the city but desire to live in a beautiful suburban community.  Residents have easy access to commuter buses and trains via bus stops in Mountainside, and train stations in nearby Summit and Westfield.

For those who prefer to drive, Mountainside boasts easy access to two of the most-used roads in the New Jersey. Route 22 runs through the Borough and provides instant access to local points east, toward Newark/New York; and west, toward the corporate centers of Somerset/Hunterdon Counties and western New Jersey.

The other major road which touches the northern tip of the Borough is Route 78. This highway provides a pipeline to the east/west places of employment, and can also quickly provide access the other major state highways such as the Garden State Parkway, Route 287, and Routes 202/206.
