Mayor and Council

Mountainside is governed by a Mayor and Council form of government, as authorized through the Option Municipal Charter Law (Faulkner Act). Enacted by the State Legislature in 1950, this form of local New Jersey government provides for the election of a Mayor for a term of four years and a Borough Council of varied complement. In our case, the Borough Council consists of six members, elected for staggered three year terms. Both the Mayor and Borough Council are elected at-large, that is, to represent the entire community. Elections for all officials in Mountainside are conducted during the November General Election. The Borough Council holds its meetings on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month at 8:00 pm in Borough Hall. Click here to email the Mayor or Council.

Community Support

  • Senior Citizens
  • Library

seniorThere are many and varied services available to Senior Citizens in Mountainside.

Most of the programs are county or statewide and not limited to Mountainside residents. In New Jersey, every county has an office on Aging.

These agencies supply information and referral services within their county. Additional information is available from Senior Citizen Coordinator, Kim Moriak at (908) 232-4406.

We have a lot to offer and hope you'll take time to explore our collection. In addition to our online catalog and array of electronic databases, we have a terrific photo gallery that chronicles the last several years of library history. And many people find our schedule of programs and activities a real convenience.
